crushed stone

Crushed stone (or gravel) is a material widely used in the construction industry. In particular, it can fulfill the following functions:

  • Serve as a decorative element for landscaping
  • Act as a base layer when making sidewalks
  • Cover yard pathways (finishing)
  • Serve as a foundation or sub-foundation for various projects (streets, parking lots)
  • Facilitate drainage or embedding (drains)
  • Cover road shoulders
  • Be used as backfill during excavation work
  • To be used as abrasive material (road safety in winter)

THE DIFFERENT CALIBERS OF GRAVEL

Gravity uses vary according to the size of the crushed stone. For example, a 0 to 10 mm gauge stone will be preferred for finishing yard pathways because of its high ability to compact. By contrast, a 0-20 mm stone will be used for deeper excavations instead.

THE CRUSHING PROCESS

Crushed stone is obtained by reducing the size of the stone according to the desired calibrations. This process requires the use of special tools such as hammers, crushing or grinding machines. At Carrière d'Acton Vale, we have all the equipment necessary to provide you with the ideal particle size for your project, including everything from stone dust to the largest granules.

Here is the list of our crushed stone products:

  • Large aggregates
  • Fine aggregates
  • Foundation materials, sub-foundation, granular surface course and shoulder
  • Screenings (stone dust)
  • Armour stone
  • Abrasives (with or without added salt mix)

Please note that all of our abrasives meet the standards of the Ministère des Transports, de la Mobilité durable et de l’Électrification des transports du Québec.

RECYCLED AGGREGATES

At Carrière d'Acton Vale, we give a second life to various types of construction debris (concrete, asphalt and brick). On site, they are crushed to be transformed into aggregates that can be used for various purposes, including the creation of road embankments. Making and selling recycled aggregates is our way of helping protect the environment and our precious natural resources.
